| BRADWELL NUCLEAR POWER STATION PLANS |
|
The Nuclear Power Station at Bradwell is no longer operational and is in the process of being decommisioned. However some radioactive substances remain on site and for this reason emergency plans are maintained detailing the action to be taken in the event of an accidental release of radiation into the environment. Specialist teams are also on standby to respond to any incident at the site. In the event of an accidental release of radiation warning would be given by the on-site sirens. Residents in the immediate surrounding area have been issued with specific instructions on what to do on hearing the sirens - which is basically to adopt a shelter policy by staying in their homes, closing all doors and windows and await further instructions. In the unlikely event of an evacuation being necessary notification would be undertaken by the Police supported by the Local Authority in providing Rest Centre accommodation. Any necessary decontamination would be undertaken by the NHS Ambulance Trust or County Fire & Rescue Service in liaison with the Health Protection Agencies. The risk of any incident involving radioactivity extending beyond the boundary of the site is now negligible. |
